Marine Terminal Operators Establish PortCheck Inc. to Manage Clean Trucks Program Requirements
LONG BEACH, Calif., Oct. 28, 2008 – The members of the West Coast Marine Terminal Operator Agreement (WCMTOA) today announced that they have been contracted by the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach to collect the Clean Truck Fee (CTF) required by the ports as part of their Clean Trucks Program. To comply with the requirement to collect the CTF, the terminal operators have established a new company called PortCheck Inc. [more info]

PierPASS OffPeak Program Diverts 5 Million Trucks From Los Angeles Daytime Traffic
PierPASS Inc. today announced that its OffPeak program has diverted more than 5 million truck trips from peak daytime traffic since the program’s start in July 2005. The program has eliminated costly bottlenecks at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, reduced gridlock on area freeways and curtailed air pollution from idling traffic. In an average week, OffPeak removes 60,000 truck trips from the freeways during busy commuting hours, reducing congestion and benefiting local air quality. [more info]

PierPASS Survey Shows Port Truck Drivers Stay Positive on OffPeak
PierPASS Inc. today released the finding of its third opinion survey conducted with truck drivers servicing the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Highlighted in the poll results are an increased number of trips truckers make per shift, continued acknowledgement of traffic reduction at the ports and the recognized benefit of a flexible work schedule due to the OffPeak program. A growing number of the truckers also report higher earnings since the OffPeak program was initiated in July 2005, continuing a trend noted in a benchmark survey conducted in May of last year. PierPASS Completes Transition in Exporter Procedures
PierPASS Inc. today announced a successful transition to the new procedures for handling export containers under the OffPeak program at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Implemented beginning August 7, the transition required operational adjustments by exporters, terminals, shipping lines, trucking companies and PierPASS Inc., and was completed with few problems. PierPASS Inc. today released the results of an opinion survey recently conducted with truck drivers servicing the marine terminals of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. According to the poll, the majority of drivers working in and around the port complexes report an overall positive opinion of the OffPeak program and the benefits of OffPeak’s new night and Saturday shifts. PierPASS Changes Export Container Handling Procedures
PierPASS Inc. today announced new procedures for handling export containers under the OffPeak program at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Beginning Monday, August 7, 2006, exporters delivering containers during peak hours will be required to claim their booking numbers before the containers arrive at the marine terminals. [more info]

PierPASS OffPeak Program Diverts 2 Millionth Truck from Los Angeles Daytime Traffic
PierPASS Inc. today announced that more than 2 million truck trips have been diverted from peak daytime traffic since the start of the OffPeak program on July 23, 2005. The program has eliminated costly bottlenecks at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and reduced gridlock on area freeways. Taking trucks out of stop-and-go daytime traffic and letting them move at night in faster-flowing traffic is also expected to have a positive impact on air quality around the ports. [more info]

PierPASS Starts to Pursue Delinquent Exporters
After eight months of operation, the OffPeak program has achieved tremendous success due to the participation and support of cargo owners. More than 1.5 million truck trips have been shifted out of daytime traffic to evenings and weekends. The resulting decrease in congestion in and around the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has benefited importers and exporters, the ports, and communities around the ports, and has avoided legislation that was imminent. There is now a considerable body of support for OffPeak in Sacramento and among local authorities who expect the program to be a success. [more info]

PierPASS Announces TruckTag Program to Enhance Security at Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Calif., January 12, 2006 – PierPASS Inc. today announced the TruckTag program, created to enhance security in marine terminals at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach by improving the process of checking trucks and drivers entering the terminals. Under the program, PierPASS will distribute RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) electronic tags to be installed on trucks, similar to the FasTrak and E-ZPass devices used for automated toll collection, enabling quick and secure check-in at the terminals.
